Towards the end of last year, a few readers commented that they would love me to set them a regular training challenge.
I thought this sounded like it could be a lot of fun. My instructors and I regularly challenge each other with a new trick or skill that we’ve seen or heard about.
What is so nice about this is that as well as expanding our knowledge base, we’re also doing so with the support and encouragement of each other. Plus a little healthy competition never did anyone any harm either ;-)
I’m planning on making the challenges as accessible to as many of my readers as possible, so it doesn’t matter if you have an older dog with no training experience or a more knowledgeable dog that already knows that month’s challenge.
The challenges won’t require that you allocate huge chunks of time out of your day to them, and that wouldn’t make for effective dog training anyway.
As I will be playing along with you, my goal is to find a 5-10 minute training session at least once a day. Even just doing this each day for a month will significantly improve my dog’s skills and understanding of the challenge – plus each training session is an investment in my relationship with them too. Win, win!
The goal is to connect with your dog, to learn a little along the way, and to have a lot of FUN in the process.
I’m planning on posting a new challenge on the first Friday of every month, so you’ll see January’s challenge appear shortly.
